About Me

Drawing of me by my Daughter, Sofiabella age 8.

Hi!  I'm Corie Moon and I love Fiber Arts!  Knitting and Crochet is my yoga; it is my "me" time to think, relax, and get consumed by creativity.

I learned to knit over ten years ago on a whim. I was out shopping with a friend and she wanted to stop at a yarn store to get supplies to learn to knit and I decided to try it too. My first project was a garter stitch scarf, which I still have and use. When I was a little girl my mom taught me how to crochet, and then years later I was given a little refresher course by a friend and was hooked again.

The thing that I love most about knitting and crochet is the endless creative possibilities. I love to mix and match textures, colors, and stitch patterns in order to create really unique one-of-a-kind items. In the last five years I have really gotten into designing my own original projects, usually my designs are a combination of knitting and crochet. Most of the things that I make are either gifts or commissioned work. I especially love to make smaller projects with many fine details and embellishments, such as hats, mittens, toys, or baby items.

When I am not knitting or crocheting, I am spending time with my family, who have been a great source of inspiration for me. My daughters, ages 6 and 8, love to come up with project ideas and designs for me. My children are gifted when it comes to drawing, a skill that they acquired from spending many hours drawing with my husband, who is a talented artist. I have photographs of them drawing with their dad as young as 1 year old. As a result, I have a binder full of drawings that they have given me of project ideas. My husband and I enjoy involving our children in our artistic endeavors and they proudly tell others that they are my “design team”.

I am a firm believer that you are never to old or to experienced to learn something new, so I am always open to and looking for new techniques and skills to improve my craft. Currently I am enrolled in and nearing completion of The Craft Yarn Council Hand Knitting and Crochet Instructor program, as well as working on The Knitting Guild of America's Master Hand Knitting certification. I enjoy connecting with others and I have found that Knitting and Crochet is a great way to do so. Whether they share in my favorite  past time, know someone close to them that does, or I am giving them a personalized gift; I have found that the connections that I have made through yarn crafting are lasting and meaningful.
